Training.

We run training sessions for teams, theatres, productions and venues on welcoming neurodiverse audiences to your venue, whether alongside a relaxed performance or simply for increased inclusivity.

Relaxed audience briefing

This is a briefing which we typically offer to front of house staff at a theatre holding a relaxed performance.  It covers:

  • What a relaxed performance is

  • Why they are important and what barriers our audiences face with coming  to ‘standard’ performances

  • The changes we suggest for the venue

  • What those changes mean for the venue staff

  • A brief overview of neurodiversity and autism so staff know how to help customers enjoy the show as best they can

This briefing lasts c. 45 minutes and is not interactive; we do, of course, welcome any questions during or after the briefing. It covers what we generally suggest for a relaxed performance, but is not specific or bespoke to your setting.

Any number of people can attend this session and it can be held online or in person.

Interactive training for venues

This is an interactive training session which looks at what barriers neurodivergent patrons may face in your venue and what changes you can make (or consider making) specific to your setting.

We still cover everything included in the briefing above, but in a more bespoke and interactive manner which allows you to come up with tangible and realistic action points, which can include relaxed performances as well as other steps you can take to make the venue more accessible.

This session is therefore best aimed at venue management or production staff, and we ask for a maximum of ten people in the session.

We do cover as part of this session, what is important for front of house staff to know; we can also offer front of house briefings in addition to this interactive training for managers.

Combination

We can offer both of the sessions above, in combination.

We will run an interactive training for up to ten venue management staff, looking at changes the venue can make to increase accessibility, generally and/or specifically for a relaxed show date. (Many of these can be put in place permanently).

We will then run the briefing in-person for an unlimited number of front of house and venue staff, covering what neurodiversity is and how to be inclusive and accessible in welcoming neurodivergent patrons.

This is the best option for those venues which want the briefing to be held in-person, and want a more comprehensive training.

Bespoke trainings

We can design a bespoke training for your team and venue, according to your needs and set-up.

If you would like more information about running a training session, get in touch.

We plan to offer open group training sessions online soon - if this is something you might be interested in attending, drop us an email and we can add you to a waiting list.

People think of the autism spectrum as a line, but it’s really more like a DJ’s mixing board.
